Biolage's Commitment to a Greener Future
Since 1990, Biolage has led the professional industry with therapeutic haircare and styling products rooted in safety, efficacy and ethics. Fusing nature with science, our gentle therapies deliver high performance results. We are continually making improvements from soil to salon to evolve our brand to become more eco-conscious: Greener Packaging, because we care not only about what’s in the bottle, but about the bottle itself. We “light-weight” our packaging to minimize the plastic used in our bottles. The majority of our packaging is recyclable (check your local recycling laws), and in 2009 we are proud to introduce select bottles made with up to 25% post-consumer recycled material. Greener Manufacturing, because we watch what we put into the manufacturing process as closely as what comes out. We strive to reduce consumption of energy and water, and minimize emissions and waste used in the production of our products. In 2008, the U.S. Biolage manufacturing plant reduced total energy consumption by 13% and increased the proportion of recovered/reused waste by 67%. Greener Communities, because we are invested in the health and well-being of our salon communities and the planet. In 2008, we contributed $50,000 to the U.S. Conservation Fund resulting in the planting of 9,000 trees in wildlife reserves and are working on sourcing more sustainable ingredients to avoid depleting the earth’s resources. Together we can make a difference. We encourage our salons, stylists and their clients around the world to get involved in helping their local environment and communities. Here are some simple ways you can go greener in your life: When you clean, go green! Use environmentally-friendly cleansing agents like ammonia, borax and baking soda, or buy biodegradable products. Save water. Install water reduction devices such as flow restrictors and aerators that help use less water. When possible, use cold water instead of hot. Turn off the tap while in between tasks. Minimize solid waste. Rinse and recycle all glass and plastic containers as well as office paper, magazines, newspaper and cardboard. Use Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs). CFLs use only about 25% percent as much electricity, are compatible with virtually all conventional lighting fixtures, and last about ten times as long as quick-burning incandescent bulbs, saving in electricity costs over the course of their lifetime.
